Hi.
I'm Laura Bankston and I'd like nothing more
than to help you have the most rewarding homeschool experience possible.
When I first started homeschooling, I was
sitting at my kitchen table, frustrated. After doing a lot of
research, asking a lot of questions, and acquiring a lot of experience, I
was finally able to achieve the positive learning environment I
envisioned.
Then, one day, I was on the phone with a
lady I'd never met. She had been referred to me by one of my
friends. She was pulling her son out of private school and was in
desperate need of help.
She was really insecure about her own
abilities as she had dropped out of school and later obtained her GED.
She was not a good reader and was worried about her ability to teach her
son to read. She didn't have an ounce of self-confidence in her
body.
BUT, she did know that her Kindergarten son
was unhappy. She did know that he came home crying. She did
know that he wasn't learning what he was supposed to be learning.
And she did know that her son didn't "just have a discipline problem" like
the teacher said.
So, I spent about 45 min. or so on the
phone, encouraging her. She had already pulled her son out of school
and wasn't going to take him back, but she didn't think that she could
homeschool. So, after talking with her and hearing a little bit of
her story, I told her that there was no doubt in my mind about her
abilities. But, if she still felt unsure, I explained to her about
curriculum that would tell her step-by-step what to do. We spoke in
detail about how I homeschooled. I shared some of my initial
struggles and how she could avoid that. But, most importantly, by
the time we hung up, she was feeling enough self-confidence to try
homeschool. After all, there is no one better qualified to teach and
love a child than his Mom!
Anyway, that was an empowering experience.
And that's when I knew that I possessed a lot of knowledge. And
that's when I knew that I would love nothing more than to help others
through the same journey.
So, thanks for your time and for giving me
the opportunity to share with you.
Sincerely,
