"Homeschooling Genius Inspirational Interviews...The Home School Mom's

Mental Day At The Spa"

Ever have a homeschool day where you feel like throwing in the towel?

Or maybe even yell at the kids?

If you've ever felt like you just aren't going to make it through the day, then this will be the

most important article you'll ever read.

Dear Homeschooler:

I'm Laura Bankston, and I too have been a frustrated, wanting-to-throw-in-the towel homeschooler.

Let's just face it.  Homeschooling is mentally draining.  The planning, the organization,

the arranging, the questions...the list goes on and on.

So, I had to stop and evaluate my life.

If you haven't read my bio, you probably don't know that my husband and I also have a

successful carpet cleaning business.  And, boy, that can drain your batteries!

So, I started to think about how I stopped the business from draining me, and that's

when I realized that I needed to...

"Be Recharged the Way Successful Business People Are Recharged"

I know.  Not rocket science.

But have you considered this?  Business professionals all have some type of support that

recharges their batteries and gives them the mental edge they need for success:

  • Corporations have annual trade association meetings or events

  • Pastors, deacons, and church leaders have leadership retreats

  • Realtors have luncheons to socialize, share ideas, and network

  • Chiropractors have annual educational and networking extravaganzas

And I'm sure you can think of many other examples.  Sure, people at these things are learning

new stuff, and maybe buying new stuff; but the reason people go to them over and over is

because they get RECHARGED.

And that works--for a little while.  Then the daily grind quickly overtakes them.

So, do you know what they do to keep them going in between the annual events?

  • monthly newsletters

  • monthly coaching or conference calls

  • monthly stories of success

  • Q&A teleconferencing sessions

And, yep.  That's what did it for us in our carpet cleaning business.  That monthly contact from

a variety of sources gave us new ideas.  We'd find out that so-and-so had the exact same problem

and easily solved it by "X".  We had (and still have) monthly trade newsletters, monthly conference

calls, monthly Q&A call in days, AND....monthly tapes of interviews with successful business people

(some in our field and some not) that have experienced and conquered the same difficulties we were

facing.  We were able to attack life with vigor.

So Why Should It Be Any Different For Homeschoolers?

It shouldn't.  And, it doesn't have to be except for people who choose to wallow in solitary frustration.

There are many resources of which we all take advantage:

  • support groups

  • meetings

  • workshops

  • e-lists

I'm part of them all. But, as a homeschooler, all those were still lacking the infusion of positive

energy that I experience from my business support network.

I need to hear positive stories of success.  I need to hear voices people actually doing what

I want to be doing.  And I need something I don't have to leave my house, or drag the kids along,

or find a babysitter--you know the drill.

I couldn't find anything like that.

And, as I'm sure you've learned--when you have a problem, solve it.  If it's broken, fix it.

If you don't have it, make it.

So, I did.

Introducing the...

"Taped Interviews of Successful Homeschoolers

and Professionals

That Are So Full Of Positive Energy

That It's Literally Like a Mental Day at the Spa"

This is the coolest thing since sliced bread.

Just imagine this:

You're going through your week of homeschool.  And you've had one of those bad days. In

the afternoon, you send one of the kids out to the mailbox 'cause you don't even have the

energy to go get the mail.

You're handed the pile of mail, thinking, "I wonder how many bills are in here today" as you

grab the pile and then you realize that there's a padded envelope there too.

"Oh!" you think excitedly as you pull it out of the mail.  You rip open the package like

a child on Christmas morning and pop the cassette tape in your stereo.

You send the kids to the other room to play, and you turn on the cassette player feeling

like you might have the energy to start dinner after all.

Soon, your mind drifts away and you're not even really paying attention to what's happening

around you as you listen.  You hear a story that's remarkably similar to yours.

"Wow," you think.  "I guess it's not just me."  And you feel a little tension drifting away as

you continue to listen.

Then the topic changes.  They're talking about what you were just thinking the other day.  And

you hear great ideas, get new resources, and learn how to do things differently than maybe

you even imagined.

Before you know it, you're refreshed and recharged, ready to tackle homeschooling with the

intense excitement you had when you first started.

You might be thinking, "Yeah, right".  But really, I'm not pullin' your leg!  'Cause this is what

happened:

"How A Homeschooling Mom Thought She

'Just Had a Small Question'

But Instead Got the Whole Thing Rolling"

I checked my e-mail, and I had an e-mail from my "Ask a Question" page.  It was from a

homeschooler that was just looking for a particular book, but she mentioned that she had been

homeschooling for 12 years, had just adopted 8 kids, and was working on a unit study.

Got my Attention!  I  was wanting to pick her brain after reading her short e-mail!

So, I e-mailed her, told her about what I was wanting to do, etc.; and we scheduled a time to do

the interview.

I lay in bed the night before thinking about all the things I was wanting to ask her.  And I could

hardly wait to get on the phone with her the next day.

And I was NOT disappointed.  I couldn't believe that I was hearing the same things that I had gone

through.  And then I was learning how she was doing stuff that I had been thinking about trying.

And when she said that I could do it too, I believed her.

When I got off the phone with her, I was RECHARGED.  It was exactly what I was needed.  Exactly

what I hoped for.  Exactly what I wanted to share with everyone else.

So, if I felt that way; I know that you will too!
